HARLEY DAVIDSON

- Bangalore -

Harley Davidson is an iconic American brand of motorcycles, one of the first international brands of motorcycles to be brought to India. It is an independently owned Harley Davidson dealership and is located in a standalone building on a high-street called Lavelle Road in Bangalore. The store is distributed vertically over three levels, the lower or ground entrance level consists of a motorcycle display upfront, with motorcycle accessories displaced beyond in the rear. Along one side is located all the services namely, toilet, staircase, pantry, and admin offices with managers cabin.

The mid-level consists of Harley Davidson apparel section and a cafe overlooking the road. The conference room is situated in the rear.

The upper or third level houses the complete motorcycles service and repair section. The design concept was to create an industrial feel for both the interior as well as the exterior of the building. The building is designed as a metal structure consisting of a framework of metal stanchions with decking slabs as floors and light weight blocks as exterior walls on the sides and rear. The lower level has complete glazing from floor to ceiling in the front facing the road, and acts as a show window and for the beautiful motorbikes and accessories inside. The upper level projected out over the glass show façade in the front and was cladded with anodized corrugated aluminium making it look like a large mettle cube punctured with glass giving a glimpse of the cafe and apparel section beyond.

A metal hydraulic scissor lift outside in the front transported motorbikes vertically to the service level on top, this drama added to the industrial concept look.

The interior has an industrial look consisting of exposed decking sheet as ceilings with exposed conduit raceways interspersed with suspended air-conditioning units and large hanging industrial light fixtures.

The whole ceiling was painted in dark charcoal grey. The floor was finished with grey cement vitrified tiles; orange, yellow and grey walls connected the ceilings to the floor and formed a backdrop to the dark grey metal display units displaying the colourful accessories and apparels.

The entrance was double heighted, connecting the lower level to the café above a metal staircase with chequered plaid treads linking all the different levels.

Large images of Harley Davidson motorcycles being ridden in exotic locations adorn some of the walls.
